HEARTS OF OAK BENEFIT SOCI…
HEARTS OF OAK BENEFIT SOCI ETY. Triennial Election of Delegates, 1918-1921. Aberdare District, No. 201. o3 Brynh vtryd, Ferndalc, February, WIS. Fellow Member>, — Within the next few days you will be asked to elect ai Delegate to represent Lhis District on the Delegate Board of the Society; having been nominated as Candidate 1 offer my services and solicit your confidence and support. I have been a member of tho Society for 32 years, Secretary of the Local Association since 1011, have taken a keen interest in Friendly Society and Trade Union matters, representing the Ralhvaymen on their Executive Committee (late A.S.K.S.) and Dele- gate to their A.G.M.; also Branch Secretary for over 21 years. With the experience 1 have gained I feel I shall be able to be of good service to the Hearts of Oak members. 1 am opposed to Delegates acting as Paid Officers, either as Card Collec- tors or as Sick Visitors; the Execu- tive Council's Heport proved that the most efficient and cheapest sys- tem for Insurance Books and Cards is the Postal Method, which should be adopted in all Districts, thus saving half the expense. It is well known that the present Delegate, since the introduction of the Insur- ance Act, has totally misrepresented the. feelings and wishes of the Mem- bers of this District. He took office as a Paid Collector of Insurance Books and Cards, without consulting his Members. He brought forward a proposition before the Board to stop the publication of the Journal, the chief and only source of inform- ation to Members, besides turning the District into a family pocket borough. 1 have adopted the pro- gramme of the -iteiiII)el..S, Protection Association, and, if elected, it will be my constant endeavour to pro- mote the best interests of all Sec- tions of the Members, reporting to the local Associations the work and transactions of the Delegation Board. also submitting Agenda of questions to be discussed and to be guided by their wishes. Soliciting the support and votes of Members in all Sections. Yours fraternally, Society Member 32 years.

WAR BONDS WEEK. The sum set for Aberdare is L150,000, the cost of a destroyer. No organised effort has been made to realise this sum, but all the local War Savings Associations, of which Mr. 'George Jenkins, Aberdare is secretary, are "pushing" the certifi- cates very hard, and though the sum above named will be far from I realised, it is anticipated that the subscriptions will be far above the average. In Mountain Ash the sum aimed at C100,000, the cost of a submarine. aj^ous colliery com- panies have subscribed handsomely, and a meeting was held at Mountain Ash last week, under the presidency of Lord Aberdare, who subscribed £ 2,00(h The latest figures to hand are £ 35,709, including £ 5,000 in- vested by the Mountain Ash Council.
