Grand Victory Ball. CHILDREN'S EVENT A GREAT SUCCESS. Children are nn tural dancers. They possess in a marked degree a sense of rhythm, and at the least sound of music their little feet be- come restless. Dancing is a part of their hfe, an expression of pure j".y which only a child can feel. And at th, Victory Ball at the Parish Hall, Aberystwyth, on Friday evening, fifty children enjoyed themselves as never they had done before. Gay butterflies and little fairies in white miived about as lightly and as graceful!} • i- as the beautiful creatures they represented, And therei wedeno signs of fatigue no waving of facna. Even when the music ceased the little feet did not rest. Dance after dance was gone f through in the spirit of play, and when the orchestra gave the last note of music the re. grets were many. The promoters of the ball did all in their power to give the children the time of their lives. Mr. David Wiiliums and Mr. R. D. Browne gave every attention to their little guests and danced and played with them merrily. Mr. W. II. The! funeral took place at Corwen Churchyard on Wednesday, The death occurred on Monday from paeu- monia. of Mrs. Elizabeth Williams, wife of 'Mi Rees Williams. Corwena-terrace. at the age of fiftv-seven years. She was a mamber of the J C.M. Chapel.' She leaves a husband, two n daughters and seven sens. The funeral will take place on Friday at t New Cemetery. Notification has been received of the death cf Private David Owen. S.W.B., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Owen. Liverpool-terrace, at Namur, Belgium, on January 18th, following an attack of pneumonia. Deceased was twenty one yearg of age and I)qrl been on active ser vice for upwards of t'ghteon months. Inter-Collegiate Week. GAMES, CARNIVAL AND EISTEDDFOD. There are now 700 students at the University College which is a record, and naturally the Inter.Collegiate functions last week were more lively than has been the case since the beginning of the war. During the week .Mr. Herbert Lewis, M.P., for the Welsh University, accompanied by Mrs Herbert Lewis paid a visit to the town. On Wednesday the Aberystwyth rugby team visited Cardiff and playe4 tihe Cardiff fifteen on Thursday. After a close game Aberystwyth I were victorious by two points. In the ladies hockey rfmteh Aberystwyth beat Cardiff by I fonr goals to one. i The, same day a fancy (Ire-qs carnival to celebrate the visit of the Cardiff association football and hockey teams was held at Aber, 'ysfwyth. The visitors were received by a Maige crowd at the railway station antl were prarded through the streets in a char.a.bane drawn by students in fancy costumes. A demonstration was held outside the women's hostel. On Friday afternoon an association football match between Cardiff and Aberystwyth was flayed, the result being a draw of two goals ■ each. Deceased who reside in the town a few years ago, was eighty-two The remains of the lat-e Mrs. Elizabeth Wil- liams were interred at Llanaber on Thursday, the officiating minister being the Rev. K. Wait. B.A. On Saturday soldiers and sailors belongmg to Caepsalem Chapel were entertained to tea at Waverley Cafe by tha Rev. Gwynoro Davies. On Friday a boy John Griffith, Gibraltar- terrace, was knocked down by a motor car and received injuries to his head. He was at- tended by Dr. J. Pugh Jones. P.C Davies who has been in the forces has resumed duties. The War Memorial Committee met on Thursday at the Council Offices. Captain J. J. "Griffith wrote resigning the chairmanship of the Committee, as a protest against the reflection j and the unwarranted insinuations levelled ai the composition and sincerity of tlie com- mittee. Several members appealed to Captain Griffith to carry on, but in vain and Alder. man Martin Williams, J.P., was elected chair- man. The local branch of the Comrades of the Great War wrote that they had decided to take advantage of the generous offer of Dr. J H. One third of the sum collected in Bala and Pen llyn districts on "Our Day," October 25th 1918 has been returned by Red Cross Head- quarters and divided between the County ,Auxiliary Hospitals, each receiving JE9 ls. 8d. ———— +- BRECON BREEDERS- £ 1,000 SALE. High prices for Hereford pedigree cattle con tinue, and at the sale following the show of the Herd Book Society this mid-week a Hay breeder realised 950 guineas for his reserve champion bull, "-Royal Jewel". Another Bre- conshire breeder foul a prize winner for 450 guineas, and bought a reserve animal "Imperialist" for the same figure. Lord Lee of Ffireham was a. buyer, as was C:1pt. Christy of Llyswen who gave 200 guineas, for another reserve bull. Three toped 1,000 guineas, and about twelve others made from 400 guineas, tc 800 guineas several of these being for export. A Much Marcle (near Ross)firm of breeders, Messrs H. Weston and Sons.. produced the champion of the show, which realised 1,500 guineas fcr export, and also won the special prise for a group of three. These bulls "Ideal" "Investment," and "Invincible," totalled 2.410 guineas. Several of the late Lord Rhori- dda's herd now in other hands realised good prices,

To Spend Thousands. ON ABERYSTWYTH PIER AND CON- STITUTION HILL. At the adjourned Licensing Sessions on Wed- nesday, the Chief Constable stated that as no application had been made for a renewal of the licence of the S. George's Hotel it was con- sidered that it had elapsed. It was decided that co renewal be made. Mr. Cooke (of Cooke, Brothers, and Roberts) agent for Sir Thomas Taken, applied for a renewal of the licence of th Pier Pavilion bar The Free Church Council, for whom Mr W. P. Owen appeared objected. Mr. Cooke said that the Pier and Pavilion were to be taken over by a large company, and thousands of pounds were to be spent on the Pier and Constitution Hill. Mr. W. P. Owen contended that the jast occupier of the bar on the Pier was Mr. Arthur Knapp, and he had left since 1916, since whieh tin>ft no application had been made and no money paid to the Licensing Authority Fund.—The Rev. R J. Rees, on Authority Fund.—The Rev. R J. Rees, on behalf of the Free Church Council, said that a public house on the Pier would do a lot of harm to the students of the Theological College. -Mr Cooke asked for an adjournment so that he could employ legal aid.—A renewal was refused The police objected to the licences of the Freemasons Tavern-, bridge.street Hd South, road (George Jenkins, occupier); Itie Horse Shoe, Gray's Inn-road (Mr. David Davies); Victoria Hotel, Baker., rKit (Mr. T1. The popula- tion of the town was 8,794, being 199 persons for each public house of which there were forty-four.—The houses were referred to' the Compensation Authority, and were pi'ovisionally renewed.

YSBYTTY YSTWYTH. j The death has occured in her seventy-seventh year of Mrs. Morgan, Tymawr. widow of i Joseph Morgan, relieving officer. She leaves five sons, one of whom (.I!1r. Edward Morgan, M.R.C.V.S.). is in Venezuela, South America, I and five daughters. The funeral took place on Friday, February 21st, interment being made in Ysbytty Ystwyth Churchyard. The Rev. T. M. Jones, Trisant, and the Rev. D H. Lloyd, Cwmystwytli, officiated at the house, and the Rev. Dv J Jones (vicar) and the Rev. T N. Jones Eglwys Newydd, in the Church, and ¡ at the graveside. SWYDDFFYNNON. The funeral of Mrs. Margaret Roberts f Maesnewydd (late of Tynddraenen) took place | on Thursday at Gwnnwg. The deceased w ■■ j the widow of Mr. Robert Roberts, Tynddraenen. Mrs. Roberts, who was eighty-six years of age, was, probably. the most popular character in the district. Hardly a. birth, marriage, or death took place in the district without her superintending presence. Swyddffynon lads meeting by chance in France during tlie war would always talk of her with kindly expres- sions of regret at the accounts of her illness. Both Mr. and Mrs. Roberts were faithful mem bers of Bethel Baptist Chapel. For many years their house had been the home of itinerant j preachers, their hospitality wa^ known and appreciated from one end of Wales to the L rather by the Baptist fraternity. To quote the address delivered at Maesnewydd before the funeral-she was in truth a mother in Israel, The Rev. T. R. Morgan. Tynlon, officiated at Maesnewydd and. Rev. G. Griffiths. Tymawr, prayed. At Gwnnws the service was taken by the Rev W. J. Williams, the vicar. In spite of the severe weather th" funeral was ex- tremely large. __r- WATER POWER IN WALES. Under the auspices of the South WaJes Branch of the Welsh National Association for Reconstruction, a conference was held at the Theosophical Soceity's Room. Cardiff last week the subjocA difceustfed being tiiel application of water power to rural and- urban industry in Wales. Professor O. T. Jones (Aberystwyt showed how water power could be used with advantage in rural areas. Dr. Ferguson (Ban- gor), dealt with the need for taking steps to secure complete data, as to t,. rainfall; eva- poration discharges of rivers, and the survey of the lakes.

The service at Bethel Baptist Chapel, was conducted by the Rev R. D. Hughes, pastor. At the graveside, the Rev. H. Evana, reefor officiated. The death has also occurred of Mr William Davies, Sunny Hill. His mortal remains were I interred at Llanliwchaiarn- Complaints are made about the behaviour of the children of the town. It is s'aid that they attack people on dark nights and try to throw them down. At all public meetings they are present in strong force, and interrupt the pro. ceedings. CRICCIETH. A meeting of those interested in sheep dog trial was held last week Mr Owen Williams, Penystumllyn, presiding. It was resolved to hold a competition and the offer of Mr Robert Davies- Bendyglas, of the use of My"^ Ednyfed Park was 'accepted. Captain T. M; Whittaker promised a silver cup tor competi tion. Officers were elected-Chairman. Mr. Owen Williams, Penystumllyn; hon. secretary. Capt T. M. Whittaker; and hon. treasurer, Mr. W Talmage Davies. A meeting was held on Friday when Mr. B. L. Wolf Board of Agriculture, and Mr W. Lewis attended to explain the wart disease. Mr. J. Harlech Jones, who presided, said that the meeting was to explain thc purpose of the Order and the steps to be taken to prevent the spread of the disease. Mr. B L. Wrif made it clear that he and Mr. Lewis were present to help the district. Mr. Lewis fol lowed with observations in Welsh. Tt was em- phasised that the Order applied to the whole county.
