TENBY.
TENBY. A LOCAL CUSTOM.—A correspondent, writes to the South Wales Daillf News stating that he has Juite lately read at Tenby, Pembrokeshire, for r.liree weeks at Christmas time, quaintly-dressed mummers go round to every house and ask leave to be admitted. Upon their request being granted the act an old drama in which St George ionquers and wounds a Turk, who is subsequently miraculously cured by a doctor who announces bat he is Oliver Cromwell. A strange jumble! The masque closes with the words -.¡ Ladies and gentlemen, Our story is ended, Our money box is recommended. Five or six shillings will do us no liarin, Silver or copper, or gold if you can." Is this custom still in vogue at Tenby, or at any dace in Little England beyond Wales"? The "rhyme" (save us) is certainly as foreign to Welsh good manners as it is impudent. Is it of Flemish origin? It were interesting to know dso whether the old" drama" be a modern one or a survival of a mediaeval miracle play, like the Mari Lwyd of Gwent and Morganwg.

Fall ot Port Arthur.
Fall ot Port Arthur. RUSSIAN DEFENDERS ALL PRL SONERS. OFFICERS RELEASED ON PAROLE. The latest Japanese successes at Port Arthur haviug rendered the remaining positions unten- able, General Stoessel, the heroic defender, de- cided to avail himself of the terms of capitulation effered him by General Nogi a few weeks. He accordingly sent messengers on the evening of New Year's Day to the Japanese headquarters with offers to surrennder, which Nogi promptly accepted. A conference was arranged between representatives of the two headquarter staffs, with pienary powers to arrange to arrJnge terms of capitulation, and the conference had a satisfactory outcome. By the terms of tli& surrender all the officers and men of the garrison are to be regarded as pri- sonersof war, but in the case of the officers they were to be allowed to retain their arms and per sonal effects and be allowed on parole. The men were to march to an appointed place, will pil3 arms and subsequently be removed to Japan. General Stoessel has sent a dispatch to the Czars iu which be pictures in graphic style the hopeles, plight of the garrison during the latter days of the seige. He tells how snrvy and shells mowed down the men, and states that the hospitals, which contained 14,000 patients, were receiving 300 fresh cases daily. Finally, he says, the gari- son had no ammunition.
